The latest round of Sport England Lottery Fund Awards to East Midlands
projects, announced today, provide a welcome funding boost to Milton
Cricket Club, near Tuxford in North Nottinghamshire.
The Club, founded in 1949, has been awarded £68,311 towards a total
project cost of £127,311 to upgrade and extend their pavilion
facilities, allowing them to dispense with their ageing Portacabin
changing rooms.
Joe Goodman,
Trustee of the Club, who also led the Lottery bid said "Milton
Cricket Club is extremely pleased to receive this award from Sport
England. It will allow the club to move forward with plans to promote
junior cricket through all local schools, and operate a 3rd team,
hopefully in the Bassetlaw League. With more girls now playing at the
Kwik Cricket level, our plans for the future look very good! Our sincere
thanks to Sport England for all their help and support.”
Sport England’s Regional Director in the East Midlands, Tim Garfield,
commented “We are delighted to be able to confirm Sport
England's Award to Milton Cricket Club. We originally offered them our
support some time ago, in the relatively early stages of their
development, and we have been working hard with them since then to
develop their project through to today’s confirmation. We are confident
that the investment of Sport England Lottery funding will help the Club
to develop further, generating many ‘home grown’ cricketers through
their already thriving junior development programme, for many years to
come."
concluded Mr Garfield.
This latest Sport England Lottery Fund Award brings its overall
investment in Nottinghamshire to more than £44.4 million, and investment
in club cricket in the county to £850,000+ since March 1995.
The Artificial Wicket is Sponsored by
a £4,000 grant from the Foundation for Sport & Art and £1,000 from Lords
Taverners.
